The Love Trust is placing the spotlight on the young people and educators whose growth reflects the organisation’s commitment to education as a catalyst for personal and community transformation.
Primarily a faith-based organisation rooted in early childhood development (ECD), The Love Trust has steadily expanded its education footprint over the years. Today, its work spans two core pillars: the Nokuphila School in Thembisa and its Nokuphila Teacher Training Academy (NTTA). The school takes learners from Grade 000 through to Grade 9, and the NTTA equips aspiring educators with NQF Level 4 and 5 qualifications for entry into the pre-primary teaching stream.
Rather than measuring impact through programmes or statistics alone, the most telling indicators are found in the lives of those shaped by the work of the organisation. Two inspiring examples are Nokuphila learner Hope Phiri and NTTA graduate Hellen Mboweni, whose journeys reflect the long-term value of sustained and holistic educational support.
Hope Phiri is a Grade 9 learner at Nokuphila School who has distinguished himself academically and in extracurricular activities, particularly in coding, robotics and athletics. For Phiri, the school environment itself has been a defining factor in his progress.

“The way the teachers support us both academically and personally has helped me the most,” he explains. “They make sure we understand the work and encourage us to ask questions and try our best.”
Beyond the classroom, Hope credits access to essential learning resources as a key enabler. “All learning is easier when I have what I need to learn,” he says, noting that consistent access to resources and materials has made a tangible difference in his day-to-day school life.
Hope’s interest in technology is driven by both creativity and practicality. “Technology is global, and almost every job makes use of it,” he says. “Coding and Robotics have taught me not to give up when something is difficult.” Hope’s long-term goal is to become an aeronautical engineer, an ambition he believes is being shaped through exposure to problem-solving, critical thinking, and the resilience he is building through the work ethic encouraged at Nokuphila.
While Hope represents the learner journey, Hellen Mboweni’s story reflects the impact of teacher development. A NQF Level 5 graduate from the NTTA, Hellen completed her training with a clear sense of calling to early childhood education.
“I wanted to be a qualified teacher because I love teaching,” she says. “Education changes lives. And it is a resource you can use to transform the world.”
Hellen describes the training process as demanding but formative. Group projects, presentations and academic support structures helped her refine her communication skills, time management and patience, particularly in understanding that no two children learn in the same way. “The course was challenging, but it taught me that learning does not end with a qualification.”
Her commitment to lifelong learning was recently recognised when she was invited to address a G20-related gathering, where she shared insights on early childhood development and the role of educators. Speaking on the platform, Hellen emphasised the importance of passion, discipline and values in shaping young lives, particularly during the foundational years of learning.
Stories like these underscore The Love Trust’s belief that education is most effective when it addresses the whole person. Alongside the full academic curriculum, Nokuphila provides social-emotional development, a nutrition programme, transport and enrichment activities. The NTTA continues to strengthen the ECD sector by working alongside its newly qualified teachers through the toy library. This onsite collection of learning aids allows teachers to form fun and meaningful learning themes, equipping them to serve with competence.
The Love Trust remains focused on quietly building futures through one learner, one teacher and one community at a time.
